I agree that in the best of circumstances with strong supports and resources family preservation is the preferred approach over the other two options discussed in this week’s discussions. However, there is also research that finds family preservation may, at times, increase the risk of harm to the children involved especially when factors like cultural differences, state welfare policies, etc. come into play. How might you, as a child welfare worker, advocate within the child welfare system to ensure that if family preservation was utilized, there were enough resources to ensure the family’s success?
