Your task is to analyze one of the primary sources listed below by critiquing, refining, or challenging the causal relationships it establishes between abolition on the one hand, and economics, culture, and/or gender on the other.
You should engage with the source by identifying its central ideas as well as by providing arguments that explain and/or challenge these ideas. It will be important to articulate why the source’s arguments matter, and why your arguments matter within a clearly defined historical context.
The essay should establish clear connections between your ideas and the lived experiences of emancipation.
