1. You are a Social Psychologist who has been asked to speak to students at a middle school when there have been several incidents of harassment against students from different racial, ethnic, and religious groups (e.g Hispanic/Latino, African American, and Muslim students are some examples).
Part A: You have been asked to submit your speech to the Principal to review prior to the event. In a 1 to 1.5 double-spaced age essay address the following points in your speech:
- Identify the purpose(s) of your speech (i.e., to inform, or to persuade) and what you hope to accomplish by the end of it.
- What ideas behind why xenophobia (fear/hatred of a group different than you) happens, might you share with these students?
- What examples would you include in your speech to make the information more personally relevant to students?
- What practical suggestions would you include in your speech for students to implement in their everyday lives (at home or at school) to reduce xenophobia and related harassment incidents?
- What concluding remarks would you include that would capture the overall message of your speech?
Provide a list of the sources or references you used for your paper.
Part B: What is a strategy that you would propose to the Principal to implement in the school to reduce such incidents and promote a more inclusive climate? Describe the strategy and provide evidence to support your suggestion.
