Purpose of this project is to analyze and compare the family violence and domestic violence perspectives on the issue. Some of the questions to answer in analysis may include:
- What roles do gender, race, class, and culture play in each of these perspectives?
- Who does each perspective benefit, and who might it harm?
- What happens if advocates, law enforcement officers, family members, or society at large, subscribes to one view or the other?
- What are the political implications of making distinctions?
- Is it important to make distinctions between types of domestic violence? Why or why not?
- Do Johnson (2000; 2006) and Ferraro (2000) make a compelling argument?
- Does it make sense to treat all types of domestic violence the same (from a social, legal, and/or medical perspective)?
- What about the issue of gender symmetry?
- What is the best way to address domestic violence?
