The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has a very comprehensive website that all HR Professionals should be familiar with. The DOL website is www.dol.gov. This activity is designed to give you some experience navigating the DOL website and in understanding the wealth of information it contains.
Please follow my directions exactly. Failure to follow directions will result in point deductions.
First, go to the “NEWS” section at the bottom of the website then select “BLOG”. Select any blog within the past eight weeks and write a short summary (4-5 sentences). Make certain you provide the title/date of the blog.
Second, go to the “NEWS” section at the bottom of the website. Select any news item within the past eight weeks and write a short summary (4-5 sentences). Make certain you provide the title/date of the news item.
Third, go to the “TOPICS” tab at the top of the home page and then select “STATISTICS”. Select one of the statistical areas that interest you. Then provide the actual numbers over some three-cycle period (e.g., week, month, or year). Please describe the statistics and provide an explanation of why you believe the statistics changed over the period you selected. Limit your summary to four to five sentences.
Fourth, go to the “FAQ” tab at the top of the home page. Select any of the items and provide a brief summary (4-5 sentences).
Finally, go to the “TOPICS” tab at the top of the home page and then select “POSTERS”. Find the “Fair Labor Standards Act Minimum Wage Poster.” Print out a “Small B&W” copy of this poster and turn it is with the other items in this assignment. **Since this will be submitted electronically, to print the poster you should “Print to PDF” and upload as a separate file.
