Review scenario “5. One Laptop per Child” in the “Making Business Decisions” section at the end of Ch. 4 of Business Driven Technology. The children involved in this program are located in developing countries, but this program will allow the children to learn without borders. How does this initiative provide a competitive advantage for the children in this program? What efficiency and effectiveness metrics would you propose for this initiative to determine success?

Respond to at least three of your peers. In your response, address any thoughts you have on strategic initiative and metric effectiveness and efficiency.

Students need to contribute three substantive posts in this discussion by the due date indicated. The substantive posts can be any combination of responses and replies.Scenario 55. Digital camera and Polaroid camera. GPS device and a road atlas. Digital books and printed books. High-definition TV and radio.PEER1One Laptop per Child is a great idea from my point of view. Donating laptops at the cost of $100 to child that needs it opens a lot of opportunities for children that are developing their minds. Children given the new device will be so interested in the technology that teaching them anything revolving around technology can have a huge effect. The interest will develop a competitive advantage in itself. The children will become technically inclined, being able to learn in another way other than being lectured to, learning from others around the world, developing friendships and studies from other countries, the competitive advantage will be based on how they developed the knowledge and utilize the skills acquired.

Efficiency would be:

  • Learning the functionality of a laptop
  • Learning programs in laptop
  • How long it takes to develop the understanding of networking
  • Effectiveness would be:
  • Establishing communication to each other through the laptops
  • Being able to use the programs
  • Having the kids open the minds to the many possibilities
