Reading of the gauge and force L for tension

The figure below shows a simplified load cell, where an elastic core is placed in between two fixed, very stiff plates. Friction effects can be neglected and there is only sliding contact between the core and the plates. The core is a cube of side length a=10.01 mm that needs to be inserted in between the plates before the load cell is used. These plates are separated by 10 mm. A strain gauge is placed on the free surface of the cube to measure the strain as shown and it is placed there before the cube is inserted between the plates. Find an algebraic expressions for the relationships between the reading of the gauge and the force L for tension and compression……
