Write an essay of 1,100 words
An essay importantly includes
- An Introduction with a clear thesis statement
- Several body paragraphs that develop and support your thesis
- A conclusion
If your essay does not include these things, do not expect to get a high grade.
As with your reading response assignments, much of this essay will involve explaining the thinking of some of the philosophers we have studied. Think of yourself as teaching your reader how to think these thoughts.
In your essay, make reference to one philosopher from each of the following three groups (i.e. three philosophers total, one per group):
Group 1:
Kant
Group 2:
Beauvoir
Group 3:
Hobbes
What does it mean to be a good person?
To get you thinking: Is it enough to “do no wrong” or does being good mean actively doing good things? Taking a certain attitude? Having certain relationships? Being on the “right side of history”?
